Transport for Gryffe is a pressure group formed by a group of individuals, all dedicated to achieving better transport movements, public and private, within the "Gryffe Corridor" (i.e: the communities of Bridge of Weir, Brookfield, Crosslee, East Fulton, Houston, Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village).

Its establishment was triggered by the need to safeguard the integrity of the railway infrastructure which, at this point in time, still allows for the possibility of future restoration of rail access to the area.  This infrastructure is constantly under threat of "terminal" destruction  by ill-considered or ill-positioned housing and other developments, as exemplified by the recent application to build houses on the track-bed at the old Bridge of Weir station site.

Whilst the restoration of the rail link may be an essential step in achieving  better public transport in the long term, such transport at the present time is provided entirely by buses;  furthermore, the bus will always be the only means of serving outlying areas, though hopefully eventually providing these with an efficient connection to an improved rail system.  That being so, the group is no less concerned with the quality of bus services, and of the roads on which they run.  There is a need to ensure that these services are safeguarded in any switch of emphasis to rail travel.

The group also acknowledges that whilst there is considerable scope for enticing the motorist away from  his or her car, and towards greater use of public transport, the private motor car will always reign supreme for some types of journey, particularly in rural areas.  The group therefore has a definite interest in promoting improved roadway design and high standards of road maintenance throughout the area which it covers.

We are always wanting to encourage people to join us who are prepared to work towards the goals of bringing the latest transport ideas, public and private, well and truly into the Gryffe area, and to keep such issues prominently to the fore in local government circles.  So if you identify with our aims and feel you would like to play a positive part in achieving them, perhaps by agreeing to monitor existing conditions, perhaps by lobbying the appropriate authorities at the appropriate time, or simply giving moral support, why not contact us today, via this website on WebMaster@BridgeofWeir.org.uk
